Boston - Celtics finally win the hump. After floating near the .500 mark all season, they climb the right path.

They even did this after overcoming some of their misery for the rest of the season finishing the fourth quarter. While the Hornets cleared the lead by 11 points in the final minutes to equalize, the Celtics scored the final six points in their 113-107 victory on Wednesday at TD Garden.

"Just hold on," said guard Marcus Smart at the end of the game. “He calmed everyone down and made sure we got the biggest plan we could and did. You are not trying to do it alone. You just take what the game has to offer and it's part of it. ”

The victory puts Boston coach Ame Udoka's team in the top three games of the season at over .500 at 28-25. With 29 games left in the season, the ninth-place finisher is 5.5 points behind the Bulls who came out on top.

This leaves the Celtics in one of the most important games to come next week. Boston has three games ahead of the February trading deadline. 10 - and it all looks promising.

All three games are on track but against undefeated rivals. The Celtics will face the Pistons for the first time on Friday. Although Detroit improved its performance after No. 1 pick Cade Cunningham, which is still a game the Celtics should be favoured with. Then magic on Sunday, undoubtedly the worst team in the league. Both of those games, if the Celtics take care of the business, are there to win five games.

The most impressive competition, however, is the national television show on Tuesday against the Nets in Brooklyn. The last game before the trading deadline, which means there is extra juice there.

As the Celtics flourished in recent weeks, the Nets did not win as they missed their All-Star to Kevin Durant. They lost again in six games following the defeat of the Kings on Wednesday. Brooklyn plays Jazz and Nuggets in their Western turn; Both of those games are tough and can add to long-distance defeats.

And then Boston until he gets a stadium advantage: Former Celtic Kyrie Irving will not play in a game at Barclays. New York City still has the authority to control indoor areas; Temporary Irving has not played a home game this season.

All of those features add an extra dimension to the Celtics - and at the right time. Boston has won 10 of the last 14 games, and there is no such thing as a win-win victory.

"There are a lot of things we did at the beginning of the year that hurt and reduced us," Smart said of a recent game. “The things that helped us at the beginning of the year, we are starting to do a lot and they are showing themselves. Not just in the crowds, in the fans, and in the teams we play, but in us. Everyone's confidence is rising and everyone is continuing to rise. ”

While the improved game is a good sign, Boston president Brad Stevens will not decide to make a move to change franchises based on the next three games. As the first year’s top official has said, he is looking more at the 10,000-meter dash instead of suffering every game like when he was a coach.

But trading deadlines are also an opportunity to strengthen the list and perhaps inject some life into it. There have been times when Celtic seem to be standing still this year. Although a big deal is not possible, a small deal like moving Dennis Schröder or another veteran can lead many minutes to one of the younger players.

That could result in a positive change of pace and a good deal of chaos to grow the Celtics. The goal is to get under the luxury tax at the deadline, but it should be an exciting week as the team's performance exceeds expectations.

Of course, while the Celtics still have to pull out. That has been a problem this season when the Cs do not take care of business against lower-level teams, throwing them out in the event of an unexpected loss. The fall in popularity of Pistons or Magic may delay momentum, though it may not define the season.

But it is also clear that Boston looks like a recent different team. Defensively declining as one of the league's top units; different Celts have increased in recent times. It was a great Smart game and a shot of Josh Richardson that came up on Wednesday when Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown struggled another way.

"The two had nine assistants (Tatum) and six (Brown), playing the right game, and that's what will take another night," said Udoka. “It will not always be your goal scoring at night if they try to stop you. But trust your teammates, make the game go well if they try to stop you. ”
